Adult Basic Education Program
The Adult Basic Education program at College of the Albemarle’s (COA) College and Career Readiness program provides learning opportunities for to improve basis skills for those age 16 and over and not enrolled in a public school. Instruction is provided on the following subjects:
- Reading
- Writing
- Speaking
- Computing
- Critical thinking
- Problem solving
All coursework is designed to improve the adult learner’s ability to benefit from job training and have greater opportunities, including employment. The Adult Basic Education program offers:
- Day classes
- Online, face-to-face, and hybrid (combination of online and face-to-face) instruction
- Alternative learning packets

Admission
To join the Adult Basic Education program, complete the College and Career Readiness Application for Admission.
The following documents are required for admission:
- Social Security Card
- Unexpired state-issued photo identification (or passport or military identification)
